RILA began working with RILA members’ sustainability executives four years ago and retailers have dramatically increased the reach and scope of their activities. Rather than stagnating through the recession as one might expect, retailers have redoubled their efforts-first focusing on their own operations, be it energy or landfill waster reduction in stores or customer engagement throughout the shopping experience, then reaching into thier supply chains to ensure efficient operations and appropriate labor conditions.
This Thursday, Jan 26 RILA will release a Sustainability Report detailing successes, challenges, and visions for the future. To discuss these findings and new sustainability trends, @RILAtweets will moderate a live Twitter Chat on Thursday, Jan 26 from 12pm – 1pm EST via #RILAchat with Nick Aster, Founder of TriplePundit, Debbie Hauss, Editor-in-Chief at Retail Touchpoints, and Adam Siegel, Vice President, Sustainability & Retail Operations at RILA.

The Retail Industry Leaders Associaton (RILA) and our member companies are proud to announce that our first Retail Sustainability Report will be released on January 26. For the past several years, RILA has provided resources to empower, enhance, and accelerate sustainability activities in the retail industry.
This report comprehensively details strategies and tactics the industry is taking on a complete range of sustainability issue areas. It is the first of its kind for the full retail industry and will feature topics ranging from store operations; to product design, manufacture, and end-of-life; to employee, community, and other stakeholder engagement. Specific company efforts and case studies are highlighted.
But of course all the retail efforts identified in this report are only the beginning. There is still much more to be done. To discuss these successes, challenges, and visions for the future, RILA will hold an industry tweet chat on Thursday, Jan 26 from 12-1pm EST. Topics to be discussed will be: employee engagement, industry trends, and importance of partnerships.
To join the tweet chat discussion on January 26, participants can follow the discussion on Twitter using the hashtag #RILAchat. Have a question on how to participate? Just email kylee.coffman[at]rila.org.
